ハチ公

Saturday, December 10, 2011

You know, when I was younger, a lot younger,
I've been quite a softie, as in, very sentimental type of girl.

In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took in Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. During his owner's life, Hachikō greeted him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Every day for the next nine years the dog waited at Shibuya station.

Hachikō attracted the attention of other commuters. Many of the people who frequented the Shibuya train station had seen Hachikō and Professor Ueno together each day. They brought Hachikō treats and food to nourish him during his wait. This continued for nine years with Hachikō appearing precisely when the train was due at the station.

I remember when I read that tiny article about Hachi in Kuntum if I'm not mistaken,
I actually cried.

It was just an article.
a. tiny. article.

and when we were out for a walk yesterday, I suddenly remembered this faithful dog story and wondered if anyone has ever made a movie out of it, recently..?
it would be great to watch, wouldnt it?
And bam! A few hours later someone posted in the AED group (FB) a soundtrack from a movie
- Hachi - A Dog's Story.

Right away, I searched for it on the net and downloaded it.
Ada Japanese(1987) n American(2009) versions.
Ngeheh. Just finished watching.
And just when I thought this hati batu couldn't be any softer,
I cried.
Once again.
because of a dog.
a faithful dog.
ahh mencik.
*sobs*

reminds me of another story that tells the relationship between man and animal - Helen the Baby Fox. Yeah, i think i cried too. fine. dah. tutup. dah.
